REs are a key component of the Assembly army. It doesn't matter what secret tech you are chasing. Sneak close by in cover, get close, use a higher damage shotgun shot at melee range if you used up all your AP. So don't be hesitant to get them into the enemy's face.
The new stagger on the shotgun is also a big bump for them. The thing about melee is that once the melee is in melee range the enemy cannot even act without suffering retaliation strikes. So first is if you aren't used to use melee Scavs can seem bad at first glance.
